Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said her government will be able to implement the Tk 7,61,785-crore national budget for 2023-24 fiscal year.
The premier said this while addressing the commissioning ceremony of new intercity train "Chilahati Express" on the Dhaka-Chilahati-Dhaka route. She joined the event at Chilahati Railway Station in Nilphamari through a virtual platform from the Gono Bhaban.
She flagged off the "Chilahati Express" which will run on the route six days a week. The capacity of the intercity train is 800 passengers.
Hasina said the size of the budget was only Tk 61,000 crore in 2006 during the BNP regime. But her government unveiled a Tk 7,61,785-crore budget on June 1.
Lambasting the critics of the budget, she said they always criticise whatever the government does, sitting in air-conditioned rooms and talk shows of the private television channels.
They spread some words to disappoint the people and talk against Bangladesh in front of the foreigners, she said.
Many people are busy criticizing the budget without seeing it well, the minister said while exchanging views with journalists at his official residence on Minto Road in the capital today.
The 15th consecutive budget of the Awami League government and the 20th under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is almost nine times bigger than 2008-9 and the current GDP in PPP (Purchasing Power Parity) is one trillion plus dollars, i.e. about ten times bigger than the GDP of 2009, which is undoubtedly indicative of the country's progress and prosperity, said Hasan, also joint general secretary of Awami League.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) has welcomed the proposed minimum income tax of Tk 2,000 for individuals who do not even have taxable incomes.
