About the Firm

Sovereign Chambers of Law (SCL) is a well reputed law chamber established through a partnership between several Barristers-at-Law, who are also enrolled Advocates of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, specializing in criminal, civil, immigration, labour, writ, banking, corporate, commercial and real estate sectors.

Having regard to the multi-dimensional nature of most corporate, banking and commercial entities and their deals, we offer a composite range of services to our clients from under one roof. Our goal is to provide top quality legal services promptly, efficiently and with excellence.

Our team includes a dual citizen of Britain and Bangladesh, a Barrister-at-Law called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Gray's Inn, who has worked at the Royal Court of Justice, Strand, London — enabling us to render all legal services including foreign investment and cross-border matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from prospective clients

What areas of law does SCL practise?

Family, banking and finance, corporate and commercial, criminal defence, civil litigation, immigration, real estate, arbitration, constitutional and administrative, tax, intellectual property, and public interest litigation. Full practice-area detail is on our Practice Areas pages.

How do I arrange a consultation?

Please use the enquiry form below. A member of the chambers will respond within one working day to schedule either an in-person or remote consultation.

Do you take instructions from clients overseas or from foreign counsel?

Yes. We regularly act on cross-border matters — family, estate, corporate and enforcement — and co-ordinate with international counsel in the UK, USA, Australia and the Gulf. Expert-witness work on Bangladesh family law has been undertaken for US courts.

Can a consultation be held over video call?

Yes. We arrange video consultations for clients abroad or otherwise unable to attend in person. Please indicate this preference in the enquiry form.

What are your fees?

Fees depend on the nature and complexity of the matter. We are transparent: every engagement begins with a written fee proposal so the client knows the cost before agreeing to proceed.

How long does a typical court case take in Bangladesh?

It varies widely. A straightforward Family Court matter may conclude within 6–12 months; a contested Artha Rin or civil title suit can take 2–4 years including appeals. We provide a realistic timeline for each matter at intake.

Do you handle matters outside Dhaka?

Yes. We have practice partners available to assist directly in the Sylhet, Chattogram and Gazipur areas, and we brief local counsel in other jurisdictions as needed. For smaller matters we can often handle remotely with a single hearing attendance.

What documents should I bring to a first meeting?

Any documents relevant to the matter — contracts, notices, court papers, NID, and communications relating to the dispute. If you are unsure, bring everything you have; it is easier to narrow down in the room than to make a second trip.

Do you offer written legal opinions?

Yes. Written opinions are a regular part of our advisory work, for both individual clients and corporate entities. We provide structured written advice with citations to relevant statute and case law.

Is the information I share with SCL confidential?

Yes. Communications with the chambers are confidential in line with the professional obligations of advocates and barristers. Our partners are called to the Bars of England and Wales and enrolled with the Bangladesh Bar Council.
